June is National Employee Wellness Month
Did you know June is National Employee Wellness Month? During the month of June, employers are encouraged to prioritize the physical, mental and emotional well-being of their staff. Workplace Wellness is essential to providing a supportive and inclusive environment for employees to thrive in and has long-term effects on ROI.
How can you foster workplace wellness for yourself and your employees?
5 TIPS TO CONSIDER:
1. Set Boundaries: Designate certain days or hours for “flow time” that are “off-limits” for company meetings. Also encourage Managers to contact employees only during work hours.
2. Schedule Breaks: Taking regular breaks helps improve focus and reduces stress and fatigue, yet many of us fail to do this. Plan “wellness breaks” throughout the day where people are encouraged to go for a walk, catch-up with co-workers or even meditate.
3. Practice Mindful Eating: For a change of scenery, eat lunch somewhere other than your desk. Take in the tastes and colors of your food. Invite others to join you.
4. Ask for Help or Training: Create an environment that encourages helping one another and making it acceptable to ask for help. Also give employees an opportunity to request certain types of training they are craving to advance their careers.
5. Learn When To Say No: Delegate or eliminate unnecessary work.
6. Evaluate Your Company Offerings: What do you currently have in place for wellness? Are you just getting started and looking for ideas? Consider both “proactive” resources like wellness webinars and meditation apps, as well as “reactive” resources such as therapy or an EAP program.
Just make sure you do something for yourself this month so you can better take care of others.
